Starting July 16, 2022, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline updated their contact number to “988” as part of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. We wanted to get this information out there to our community, and we’ve also updated our teams and moderators as well for our social media properties / chat / Discord, etc.
The 988 Lifeline provides nationwide, 24/7, confidential support to people in suicidal crisis or mental health-related distress. By calling or texting 988, you’ll connect to mental health professionals with the Lifeline network.
The hotline is comprised of a nationwide network of over 200 crisis centers supported by local, state, and the Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) resources.
The previous number (1-800-273-8255 (TALK)) which started in 2005, will remain in service and redirects to 988.
For Veterans in need of support, pressing “1” after dialing 988 will connect you to the Veterans Crisis Lifeline which serves veterans, service members, National Guard & Reserve members, and those who support them. For texts to the Veterans Crisis Lifeline, continue using the short code 838255.
