Direct Payments: How to get an additional $800 check based on your Tax Returns? – Marca
This state set aside $1,000 million for this payments.
South Carolina is preparing to send out one time payments to their taxpayers, that are estimated to be worth around $800 each.
This amount could change, depending on the tax returns that are due October 17 for their residents.
Around 1.5 million taxpayers may receive this rebate, but the final amount will depend on each filer’s income tax liability.
This payment will be deposited directly into an estimated 80% of the taxpayers who chose this option.
The state has previously set aside $1,000 millions for this payments, but it could go up or down, depending on the budget size left after the October deadline.
South Carolina had already done something similar in the past. In 2019 they sent $50 checks to 2.5 million of their residents, according to The Washington Examiner.
But authorities announced that 68,000 of thos checks were never cashed, and another 28,000 couldn’t be delivered to the established address.
On that occasion the state used $61 million that they collected as taxes from a lottery winner, to fund this payments and cover expenses, like the $700,000 they spent on postage alone.
The Department of Revenue spokeswoman, Ashley Thomas, expressed that in order to avoid mistakes they will rely heavily on direct deposits instead of paper checks.
“The exciting part about this is I hope it will help encourage people who aren’t currently choosing direct deposit to do so in the future because it’s a safer and faster way to receive your refund.”
Thomas also mentioned that the authorities are still evaluating how much workers will be needed to distribute this payments.
