Netflix may be known as the streaming giant, but Hulu is def giving Netflix some competition. From its many incredible documentaries to an A+ movie selection, Hulu has been killin’ the streaming game for years. And now that season 2 of The Great has finally arrived (at long last!!!), it seems like a good time to round up all the best shows on Hulu rn for your streaming pleasure. From comedies to dramedies to literal dystopian nightmares (hi, Handmaid’s Tale!!), the best Hulu original series run the gamut, and if you’re not watching ’em, then you’re missing out on some seriously good TV.
While there have been tonssss of incredible Hulu series over the past few years (is anyone else still not over Shrill ending or just me??), I want to bring your attention to the best Hulu series right now, ’cause it’s nice looking forward to new seasons, ya know? That means I didn’t include limited series that have already concluded, either—but JSYK, Normal People will destroy you in the best way possible, and you if you haven’t already, pls stream it ASAP. The same goes for Little Fires Everywhere, The Act, and Nine Perfect Strangers, all of which I hiiiiighly recommend.
All right, enough chitchat. Without further ado, I present the 12 best Hulu series currently streaming (including The Great, ofc) because you can only rewatch Squid Game on Netflix so many times before you need something new in your life.
Set in 18th-century Russia, this definitely-not-historically-accurate satire tells the story of Catherine the Great and her rise from outsider to the longest-reigning woman ruler in Russia’s history. The humor is on point, the costumes are *chef’s kiss*, and season 2 is fiiiiinally upon us.

This lol-worthy series takes place in the early aughts, following two middle school outcasts (who are actually played by actresses in their 30s) as they navigate the world of instant messaging, thongs, and first periods together. No word yet on Pen15 season 3 (especially since the show’s two stars are both expecting rn), but at least we can look forward to the second half of season 2, which is dropping in December 2021.

Based on Margaret Atwood’s legendary novel, The Handmaid’s Tale takes place in a dystopian alternate reality where birth rates are plummeting and fertile women are treated as property of the state. Even though I’m still reeling from all the WTF moments in season 4, I’m already ready for the next installment (and FYI, if you’re just getting started, this handy Handmaid’s guide might help).

Created by screenwriter Taika Waititi, this comedy (which is notably the first show to feature all Indigenous writers and directors, along with an almost entirely North American Indigenous cast and production team) revolves around four Indigenous teens stuck in rural Oklahoma with dreams of moving to California.
