Balenciaga @ The 2021 Met Gala

Balenciaga was represented at the Costume Institute Gala that celebrated the opening of the exhibition ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’ at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday (September 13) in New York with seven attendees.
When it comes to the Met Gala, dressing Kim Kardashian is a big deal. The reality TV star has come a long way from the 2013 Met Gala Givenchy floral curtain dress.
If you’ve been keeping up with all things DONDA, you won’t be surprised to see Kim wearing this blacked outfit that covered her face, because it has become something of signature during Kanye West’s promotion of his new album.
I am 100%, unequivocally, wholeheartedly into this. For me, she gets better each year.
Kim described the look as a “new subculture and fashion statement.”
Rihanna was the final celebrity to appear on the Met gala red carpet.
The beauty mogul has pretty much been the queen of this event, giving us high energy looks that were always on theme.
But many were disappointed by this Balenciaga overcoat.
Granted it’s nowhere near her usual level. Not even close, yet I still love the drama of her being clocked in voluminous ruffles.
The crystal-embellished knit beanie, Bvlgari diamond choker necklace, and a plum-hued lip added to the allure for me.
Why didn’t she give us more? Maybe her back was sore from carrying this event since 2007.
If you know me well enough, you know I was dying over Michaela Coel in Balenciaga at this event.
An electric blue, sequinned jumpsuit? Yes my head did explode. This was like hitting the fashion lottery for me.
I adore the slightly off-the-shoulder silhouette as it made the one-piece more alluring.
Sapphire Nikos Koulis jewelry completed this breath-taking look.
Also in electric blue Balenciaga was Instagram style queen and ‘Black-ish’ actress Tracee Ellis Ross.
Tracee loves to play with complicated silhouettes, but her oversized coat, which paid homage to her mother’s iconic role in the 1975 film, Mahogany, was more memorable for the colour on this occasion.
I personally love the hair, but it’s been likened to Edna Modas.
Isabelle Huppert, who spent the last two weeks wowing us in Haute Couture gowns at Venice Film Festival, was back on the red carpet giving us her brightest red carpet look ever.
The French actress wore a Balenciaga Fall 2021 velvet red dress which also sees her break the mould by giving us a slight exaggeration of her signature silhouette.
This is one for her Hall of Fame. She looks radiant here. I keep going back to this.
Elliot Page reminds us that Balenciaga design impeccable suits. This is such a great cut, and fit for him.
He styled his look with those chunky Balenciaga sneakers that all the kids are wearing, with a pop of colour via his green flower which has a very significant meaning.
The green flower is historically significant in the LGBT community, having been used by Oscar Wilde in the 19th century.
Wilde asked friends attending the opening night of one of his shows in 1892 to wear green carnation flowers on their lapels.
The green carnation became a symbol for gay men to identify themselves with during a time when homosexuality was still illegal.
