Forest Whitaker shares pictures from ‘beautiful Wales’ as he shoots Netflix film with Tom Hardy
The Oscar-winning American actor and producer Forest Whitaker has shared his holiday snaps of “beautiful Wales” evidently taken between shoots on his latest film.
The actor, who won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland in 2006, has visited some of the most iconic spots in Wales including Tenby and Penarth.
He’s in Wales filming for his latest project – a Netflix movie, called Havoc – which stars fellow movie star Tom Hardy. And just like Tom, who couldn’t resist a few sneaky trips to Barry Island, it seems Forest also has a penchant for the Welsh seaside.
He posted a shot of himself standing broodily in front of Tenby’s St Catherine’s Island as well as looking slightly happier in front of Penarth’s famous pier.
It looks like he’s even managed to venture to Tredegar House in Newport for a third photo.
He captioned his photos with a simple, yet heartfelt, message: “Enjoying time in the beautiful Wales before going back to set.”
Forest made his film debut in 1982 in Fast Times at Ridgemont High and while best known for his acting and directing, he’s also famous for his humanitarian work and activism, particularly in the last decade.
In 2011, he was inducted as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and was later promoted to Special Envoy for Peace and Reconciliation. The following year he set up the Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative (WPDI), a non-profit outreach program, largely guided by a key lesson from his own mother: “You don’t have to believe what I believe, but you have to believe in something.”
Forest’s latest film, Havoc, tells the tale of a drug deal gone wrong and a detective who has to battle his way through the criminal underworld to rescue the estranged son of a leading politician.
The film is being directed by Gareth Evans, the Aberdare filmmaker behind the acclaimed bone-crunching martial arts thrillers The Raid and The Raid 2, the Michael Sheen horror Apostle and, most recently, Sky Atlantic’s Gangs of London.
Many of Forest’s fans were delighted to see the star making the most of his down time in Wales and were quick to offer him advice on where to visit next.
